Blood Moon Wilds Slot : Yggdrasil’s “Darkest Slot Yet”

Blood Moon Wilds: Yggdrasil’s new Halloween slots game described as their “darkest” title yet.

According to the modern dictionary, a blood moon is a natural phenomenon in which “the moon in total eclipse appears reddish in color as it is illuminated by sunlight filtered and refracted by the earth’s atmosphere.” But according to popular myths and biblical legend, it portends something much more ominous.

Nearly 4,000 years ago, Ancient Babylonian priests believed a blood moon was an omen of life or death, dependent on its timing. The Egyptians, who worshiped the sun as their God, Amun-Ra, saw the lunar eclipse as a frightening struggle between the sun and moon – one in which the sun appeared bitten, but the moon was left bloodied by its dominant adversary.

The bible’s mention is perhaps the most ominous of all…

“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord,” – Joel 2:31

Whether a blood moon holds any malicious intent or apocalyptic meaning is beyond my understanding. One thing I do know is that it makes for one very creepily entertaining slot machine! In this case, the all new Blood Moon Wilds Slot by Yggdrasil Gaming.

New Halloween Slot Game, Blood Moon Wilds

It’s that time of year again, when the industry’s most creative digital slots studios dig deep into their imaginative cauldrons and build the spookiest Halloween themed slot machines their visionary minds can muster. For Yggdrasil Gaming, it is a lycanthropic motif that bubbles forth, with a unique feature that spans the calendar of the moon cycle.

Where better to set the stage than the centuries old streets of New Orleans, where pirate ships sailed into port under the cover of darkness, and the unbelievable warnings of drunken sailors went unheeded; chalked up to nothing more than a bit too much rot-gut whiskey in the belly.

The game’s sound effects draw players back in time to the weathered docks along the Louisiana Bayou. The reels are made up spiked iron gates, guarded by iron wolves . Their symbols, an eclectic mix of swarthy pirates, each one more dangerous than the last. Low-paying card symbols appear on shipping yard crates, while the feature-worthy symbols are made up of the morphed phases of the werewolf’s deadly transformation.

Blood Moon Slot Features

Free Spins are awarded when 3 or more Scatter symbols, highlighted by a blood-red ruby, appear on the reels in a single spin. Players receive 7, 10, 12 or 20 free spins when 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters appear. If 2 more scatters land during free games, 2 additional free games are awarded.

During the base game, the Lunar Calendar shifts with every spin of the reels. If the phase of the moon lands on a Full Moon, all high-paying symbols on the screen will turn to wilds for that spin. During the free spins feature, the Lunar Calendar displays the phases of the blood moon. If a Full Blood Moon appears, all high paying symbol turn wild, and will remain wild for the remainder of the free games.

There are four random features that can trigger at any time during the base game or in free spins.

Random Wilds: When this triggers, the high symbol on the screen capable of producing the highest win will turn wild.

Random Full Moon: When this triggers, the Lunar Calendar will nudge the Full Moon, or Full Blood Moon, into place on the calendar.

Random Free Spins Symbol: This feature will add one Free Spins symbol to a random location on the reels, potentially triggering the free spins phase, or delivering a higher number of free spins.

Random Multiplier: The winning result of the current spin is multiplied by x2, x3, x4 or x5.
